2016 Play It Safe

Play It Safe 2016 offered free, fun and alcohol-and-drug-free events starting on Monday, May 30, 2016, and the excitement continued through Friday, June 17, 2016 .Some points to note about this year’s project are:

  • 7,228 participants
  • 3369 Bus Tickets collected
  • 15 States represented, plus the District of Columbia
  • Poster/T-shirt Design contest was won by a senior, Rachel Eure, from Snow Hill High School in Snow Hill, MD (Worcester) Click Here To See Poster Design
  • 20,000 Passports to Fun were printed and distributed in Ocean City and Worcester County
  • 60,000 informational brochures were printed and distributed across the State of Maryland and beyond
  • 43 FREE planned events, including karaoke, indoor miniature golf, paddle boarding, kayaking, midnight bowling, basketball, outdoor miniature golf, volleyball, Splash Mountain Water Sports Park, tennis, laser tag, dance party, pizza eating contests, dodgeball and 2 tye dye t-shirt design events. 3 events were canceled.
  • 300+ businesses, organizations and individuals contributed money and prizes
  • 276 Volunteers gave 800+ hours of service for the implementation of Play It Safe 2016. This does not include the countless hours contributed by members of the Ocean City Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee, Inc., as well as, time contributed by all of the agencies, i.e., Worcester County Health Department, Ocean City Public Works, Ocean City Transportation, Ocean City Police Department, etc., necessary for the successful implementation of the events.

Interesting 2015 Play It Safe Project Stats

Play It Safe 2015 offered free, fun and alcohol-and-drug-free events starting on Saturday, May 30, 2015, and the excitement continued through Tuesday, June 16, 2015 .Some points to note about this year’s project are:

  • 6,297participants Despite having numerous events rained out (8 events in all cancelled including several big events)
  • 11 States represented, plus the District of Columbia
  • Poster/T-shirt Design contest was won by a senior, Kim Michalik, from Wicomic  High School in Salisbury, MD
  • 20,000 Passports to Fun were printed and distributed in Ocean City and Worcester County
  •  60,000 informational brochures were printed and distributed across the State of Maryland and beyond
  • 46 FREE planned events, including karaoke, indoor miniature golf, paddle boarding, kayaking, midnight bowling, basketball, outdoor miniature golf, volleyball, Splash Mountain Water Sports Park, tennis, laser tag, dance party, pizza eating contests, dodgeball and 2 tye dye t-shirt design events. 4 events were canceled, 3 events were shut down early due to rain.
  • 300+ businesses, organizations and individuals contributed money and prizes
  • 200 Volunteers gave 600+ hours of service for the implementation of Play It Safe 2014. This does not include the countless hours contributed by members of the Ocean City Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee, Inc., as well as, time contributed by all of the agencies, i.e., Worcester County Health Department, Ocean City Public Works, Ocean City Transportation, Ocean City Police Department, etc., necessary for the successful implementation of the events.
  • All 23 Maryland Counties Represented plus the city of Baltimore and all 195 Public High Schools Participated with numerous Private Schools.
  • Pa., WVA,De.,GA., Ill., D.C., Texas, CO, NJ., NY, SC, MD all had 2015 graduates that participated.

  • Total Number of Participants =8,318
  • 16 States plus the District of Columbia
  •  20,000 Passport To Fun Booklets Distributed
  • 60,000 Information Brochures Distributed 
  • 48 Planned drug & alcohol free events were held for 2014 High School Graduates At No Charge.
  • No Events were Canceled This Year Due to Weather…etc!
  • Over 300 Businesses, Organizations, and individuals contributed money and prizes.
  • 360 Volunteers gave over 900+ hours of service to the Play It Safe 2014 Project. (This does not include the countless hour contributed by the OCDAAPC and many supporting agencies including Worcester County Health Department, Ocean City Transportation, Ocean City Police department, Ocean City Public Works, Ocean City Recreation Department, Town Of Ocean City)

  • In 2015 Every Maryland Public Senior High School Had At Least One Of Their 2015 Graduates Participate In Our Free Play It Safe Ocean City Events 
  • *2008 Largest Participation in Play It Safe Ocean City History.(13,185 Participants)
  • **2007 2nd Largest Participation in 2008 Play It Safe Ocean City History.(13,148 Participants)
  • Previously 2005 (12,492) was largest although 2006 had several rained out events!
  • Over 75,000 Passport to fun booklets passed out mostly to Maryland Schools.    (Maryland is the only state funding project as of July 2007)
  • Most Grads in 2009 came from Maryland.
  • Several foreign countries represented.
  • Many FREE planned events, including karaoke, indoor miniature golf, windsurfing, kayaking, midnight bowling, basketball, outdoor miniature golf, volleyball, Splash Mountain water parklide, laser tag, rock climbing and Pancake & Pizza eating contest, Paintball, weekly access to Health & Racquet Club.
  • 300+ businesses, organizations and individuals contributed money and prizes.
  • Play It Safe student committee at Stephen Decatur High School had 20+ members last school year (2007-2009)
  • As of 07/30/2015 www.playitsafeoceancity.com and www.playitsafeoceancity.org has received over 1,214,621 hits since July 2014.
